About Us
Our Mission
By learning not only the physical movements but also the philosophy, theories and principles behind taiji, one begins to understand balance in movement, mind, body, and spirit. That is the goal we at Portland Wu (Hao) Taiji strives to achieve – spread the complete aspect of taiji.
While the study of taiji often takes three major paths – health, martial arts, and philosophy (taiji theory of changes), these paths to taiji are not mutually exclusive paths from which a practitioner has to choose. Rather, these three paths are an indication of what and how to train.
Kathryn Wong – Founder and Instructor
Kathryn has trained taiji for over 20 years both in the United States and in China. She began her training in North Shaolin kungfu while still in high school. When her kungfu instructor started teaching taiji, she was one of the youngest participants. As Kathryn’s practice increased, she realized the benefits of taiji both for her health and her kungfu practice. Soon she became a certified taiji instructor at the school where she trained. Her focus has been on traditional Wu (Hao), Yang, and Chen styles of taiji. She is a Certified Taiji Instructor, receiving her training from Grandmaster Jimmy K. Wong. Kathryn has participated in taiji competitions both as a competitor, judge, performer, and organizer. She has dedicated her time and efforts to organizations promoting taiji by performing and offering training.
Most notably, Kathryn is
